The Howard M. Rowe Branch Library has been located at 108 E. Marshall Blvd. since 1968. The Branch was named after Howard M. Rowe who was the director of the San Bernardino Public Library from 1955 to 1966. Mr Rowe was instrumental in the fundraising for and construction of the Central library (1960), Lawson Branch Library (1961), Coddington Branch Library (1962), and the Villaseñor Branch Library (1966 - then located on 9th Street).
The computer room at Rowe has four computers that can be used for Internet in addition word processing, maps, encyclopedia research, and other educational programs and two non-Internet computers which offer the rest of that software. There are also two non-Internet computers in the children’s area which offer word processing, encyclopedia research and learning games. There are also two Early Literacy Stations to promote literacy for ages 2-8. The ELS feature 26 software programs to help children learn early reading skills across various subject areas. Rowe Branch offers story time each Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. Various children's programs are planned throughout the year including a Summer Reading Game and an Arts and Craft time in July and August. There is a collection of Young Adult books, magazines and paperback books at Rowe and a Teen Night is scheduled each Spring and Fall. Young adults aged 11 through 16 can participate in a Readers' Theatre during the summer. Hours Monday and Tuesday: 12 noon to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday: Closed |
