Anson B. Van Leuven was born on October 16, 1829 at Camden, Canada. He came with his brother to San Bernardino in 1854 from Utah. He developed a ranch in Old San Bernardino and became a pioneer orange grower in the county in 1867. He was a sheriff and a U.S. Marshall. He married Elizabeth Frances Robinson on January 14, 1863. Van Leuven died May 23, 1896 and is buried at the San Bernardino Pioneer Cemetery.
