Daniel McKenzie Bradford was born on March 20, 1822 in Steuben County, NY. When he was 15 years old, his father died and he was the chief supporter of his family. In 1865 he was ordered to go west for his health and he went. His health failed again and he came to California. In 1882 he bought property on Third Street in San Bernardino. Bradford died October 9, 1903 and is buried at the Pioneer Cemetery.
