Andrew Lytle was born on December 23 or 25, 1812 in Pennsylvania. He was a company Lieutenant in the Mormon Battalion. Lytle was Captain of one of the first groups of Mormons to arrive in San Bernardino. His group arrived on June 20, 1851. Lytle served as Mayor of San Bernardino and also worked as a blacksmith. He died December 27, 1870 and is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in San Bernardino.
